19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
