PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
